My Recent Skin Woes
Would you believe it if I told you that my skin was doing pretty good, until I made a recent change in toothpastes?
After a recent dental visit, I was convinced to try a different toothpaste… one that acts like fluoride, but isn’t fluoride. (Main ingredient is Hydroxyapatite.) What could go wrong?
I was faithful in using this toothpaste for a month. Exactly a month.
In that amount of time, I started to experience some breakouts in my normal “hormonal” area… around the chin and upper lip. It kept getting worse. More texture and breakouts while I heightened my skincare routine, making sure that I skipping anything and doubling down on the hydrating and exfoliating masks. Nothing seemed to help.
And then I had an acne training call and pulled up my list of questions that I had from the modules I completed.
There is was in black and white.
My question to the owner… “Do you believe that toothpaste is an aggravator in perioral dermatitis?”
All of my research into acne and perioral dermatitis has lead me to believe that it is and the owner agreed.
And while I was doing EVERYTHING skincare related right … I completely missed something that I KNEW all along!
My words of advice are this. If you change ANYTHING and your skin goes downhill, suspect that! This includes stress, diet, hormones (especially hormone therapy), detergent, skincare, and yes… even toothpaste.
Not everyone will experience skin issues like perioral dermatitis when using fluoride, hydroxyapatite, etc.
I did… and I think that these experiences not only make me a better esthetician, but they help me to be more emphatic to your skin concerns!
That day, I changed back to my normal toothpaste. I treated with a Sulphur mask and azelaic acid.
Within a day, I already saw changes. Here I am 3 days later … and almost all of the acne has gone away! I am SO grateful!
If I can give you a fresh perspective within your skin, reach out!
Experience the Difference!
